In October 2023, C&M Travel Recruitment reported positive trends in the travel industry job market, as revealed by their Activity Index. The data indicated a notable increase in new candidates searching for travel roles, reaching a three-month high. This surge amounted to an 18% rise compared to the previous month, showcasing a positive trend for jobseekers in the travel sector.

While the October 2023 figures demonstrated a 19% decrease from the same month in the previous year, they also reflected an 8% increase from October 2021. More significantly, there was a substantial 128% surge compared to October 2020, a period marked by the mid-pandemic challenges. However, when contrasted with October 2019, there was a 21% decline.

The report also highlighted a noteworthy increase in job placements within the travel industry, showing a 7% uptick from the preceding month. Despite this positive trend, it’s worth noting that October 2023’s total was significantly lower, experiencing a 63% drop compared to the same month in 2022, which was a record-setting year for job placements in the travel sector.

In contrast to the growth in candidate interest and placements, new vacancies in the travel industry experienced a decline. October saw a 9% decrease in new job openings compared to September, reaching the lowest point in six months. Moreover, last month’s vacancy figures were 56% lower than those recorded in October 2022, indicating a substantial decrease in job opportunities within the travel sector.

Barbara Kolosinska, the Managing Director at C&M Travel Recruitment, commented on the statistics, noting the positive aspect of both candidate interest and job placements increasing simultaneously—a scenario not observed since May. She emphasized the encouraging rise in new jobseekers and suggested that while a significant recruitment surge might not occur until the new year, there are opportunities in the current quieter market to secure top talent before the peak season in January.

The October 2023 data from C&M Travel Recruitment suggests a positive outlook for travel industry jobseekers, with increased interest from candidates and a rise in job placements, although new vacancies have seen a decline. The analysis anticipates a potentially busier recruitment period in January, emphasizing the current opportunities to secure talent amid the quieter market.
